A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Amawbia, Anambra State on Monday sentenced two men, Philip Avatus and Pius Dickson, to seven years imprisonment each for stealing iron rods valued at N1.1 million.
The two Taraba indigenes pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and malicious damage upon arraignment
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Agu, the defendants committed the offense on July 24 along Amawbia-Nise Road, Akwa, adding that they damaged, cut and stole 120 pieces of 12mm iron rods meant for drainage construction.
As stated in law, the offences contravened Sections 495(a), 380(b), and 415 of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Vol. II Revise Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria 1991, as amended.
