Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo over the weekend flagged off the distribution of one million and forty thousand seedlings planti across the 336 wards in the state.
The event held in the commercial city of Onitsha marked the beginning of the distribution of 700,000 palm seedlings, 200,000 ukwa seedlings (bread fruit) 50,000 bitter kola and 40,000 paw-paw seedlings to the 326 wards in the state through a system known as the kindred system.
Speaking at the event, Soludo explained that the distribution exercise is a way of re-lving the past, to drive sustainable environment, empowee Ansmbra people on sustainable basis, create wealth without leaving anybody behind.
While lamenting that the state is sadly losing her land to erosion menace and land degradation, the Governor said, "The goal is to distribute ten million economic trees and encourage educational institutions to turn their environment to become green, by planting trees . This will help the environment and ecology.
Earlier in his speech, the Minister for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Mohammad Abubakar represented by the Director of the Ministry, Arthur Mbuba, hailed Soludo’s administration for the initiative and pledged to continue supporting and partnering Anambra State in all its agricultural programmes.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor said that with the initiative, Governor Soludo’s administration has successfully laid out a strategic foundation for economic prosperity in the state.
Ansmbra State government between the year 2022 and 2023, have distributed over a million combined palm and coconut seedlings to one hundred thousand households.
Dignitaries at the event include; Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Deputy Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, members of Anambra State Executive council including the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Barrister Joachin Anaeto, Traditional Rulers, Presidents General,among others.
