LP laments closure of state office, accuse Anambra govt of truncating statutory procedures for LG election

The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has lamented the sealing of its state office in Awka by the Anambra State Government.
Speaking on the issue, the Secretary of the party in Anambra State, C.J. Okoli Akirika, said that the action was carried out without notice, warning, or any form of engagement with the Labour Party.
According to him, the agents of the state Government, accompanied by men dressed in military uniforms, stormed the LP office and, in a commando-like operation, chased away the staff and sealed the office.
Akirika said, "It is rather unfortunate, bizarre, and brazen that the Anambra State Government, which is fruitlessly seeking to truncate statutory procedures to select Local Government Chairmen and councillors in the deviously convoluted LG election, is now mindlessly resorting to underhand, illegal, and obnoxious intimidation."
He appealed to the teeming Labour Party members, supporters, sympathisers, stakeholders, and Ndi Anambra in general, as well as the state leadership of the party to remain calm saying that, as law-abiding Anambrarians, it will recourse to due process to contain what he described as, unprovoked and untrammelled illegality.
