 Just In: Festival of death as suspected rival cults clash in Anambra

Sunday, October 20, 2024 witnessed a festival of death as eleven persons were reportedly gunned down during a traditional celebration of Onwa Asaa in Nibo, Nodu village, and Okpuno communities, all in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.



Information has it that the death of many was as a result of cult clash while the ceremony was on.

It was learnt that the shootings caused pandemonium at the venueof tye ceremony as people fled in different directions for safety.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident said the police were aware of the suspected cult-related clash that took place on October 20, 2024 in Nibo, Awka South Local Government.

He said, "The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, have ordered an immediate deployment of additional security operatives to the area for necessary action.

"Preliminary reports on the incidents is still sketchy, and the Command is calling on witnesses to come forward with information that could help identify the perpetrators for possible arrest."

Ikenga further assured that any information provided would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

He urged the public with relevant information to call the Command Control Room at 07039194332 or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at 08039334002.
