Police averts another bloodshed in Anambra, as one Vigilante is injured

Police operatives in Anambra State on Sunday averted another bloodshed in the state as the members of Anambra Vigilante Group, (AVG), engaged hoodlums that came on attack.
Recall that some Vigilante officers on duty were in the early hours of Monday, November 19, 2024 attacked by gunmen at Ukpo and Abatete communities, both in Anambra State leaving four dead and setting their cars ablaze.
Confirming the Sunday incident on Monday, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ikenga Tochukwu said that one of the vigilante members was injured during the attack by the hoodlums.
He said that the incident occurred on Sunday evening along the Amesi–Uga Road in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, the injured vigilante member was rescued and taken to the hospital through police intervention, and is currently receiving medical attention.
Ikenga said, “Police-led Security Forces on Sunday, 24th November 2024, at 2:30 pm, swiftly responded to an attack on members of the Anambra State Vigilantes from the Umuchu extraction along Amesi/Uga Road and rescued one wounded vigilante operative.
"The Joint Security Forces quickly rushed the victim to the hospital, where he is currently responding to treatment, and activated intelligence-led patrols in the area to deny the criminals the space they need to cause havoc and possibly arrest them.”
“Unfortunately, during the gun battle, bullets hit the fuel tank of the Toyota Frontier van belonging to the A.V.G., causing the van to be completely burned.
"In another development, on 24th November 2024, at 4:30 pm, police operatives from the Okpoko Divisional Headquarters responded to a distress call about a fire outbreak at Chukwunonso Street along Obodoukwu Road, Okpoko, and cordoned off the scene to prevent hoodlums from looting properties and goods.
“Meanwhile, the swift response of the Fire Service operatives brought the situation under control. The Command has, however, begun an investigation into the cause of the fire incident to prevent future occurrences.”
